Our Mission Statement: To advocate as a coalition for safety and sustainable development that values the diverse character of the Tacoma Avenue neighborhood.

Specificially, coalition members have identified the following as areas of interest for the group:

  • Providing networking and communication regarding common issues in the area
  • Serving as an advocate for the area
  • Monitoring crime and safety
  • Encouraging economic development
  • Assisting people who struggle on the margins
  • Increase housing opportunities
Previously known as the Crime & Safety Group, we have received and continue to receive support from the City of Tacoma's Community Based Services. In addition, the New Tacoma Neighborhood Council has provided financial support as we transition into a self-governed organization.

Officers

The first step in organizing as an organization was election of officers in May 2007. Reflect on how you can become involved in TAC leadership when new officers are elected in April of 2008.

History

The City's Community Based Services program has provided targeted law enforcement and administrative support for our neighborhood. As a result, concerns about crime and safety have lessened. The group felt that we could now broaden our focus into other ways to improve the area, hence the former Crime & Safety Group was renamed the Tacoma Avenue Coalition. As a self-governed group, the City does not serve in a leadership role but still provides critical support in the way of supplies, printing services, and partnering on projects beneficial to the area.
