June 17th: The Arts in Tacoma

The June meeting is another Community Forum on June 17th, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Dominican Center at  935 Fawcett Avenue South. We have guests who will be sharing about the performing arts and opportunities to create your own art right here in Tacoma:

  • D.A.S.H. Center for the Arts - Candi Hall is the Executive Director of D.A.S.H. She will be discussing a new performance piece put together at D.A.S.H. to address the issue of Domestic Violence. She will also be discussing the summer camp programs for inner city youth that D.A.S.H. is offering, and talk about the Hip Hop, Krump, Ballet, Jazz, Reality Check Jr. Community Class, and other things that are going on there.
  • Tacoma Art Place - Instructor Desiree and volunteer Adrian will tell us how Tacoma Art Place can help us tap into our creative potential by providing classes, materials, studio space, and a community center where neighbors can meet and make art.

Hope to see you there!

Crosswalk Flasher Installed - TAC Success!

Visit our Photo Gallery for a picture of this new neighborhood improvement. Carol Wolfe from the City of Tacoma shared the following via a recent email:

Just wanted you to know that Chris Larson from traffic engineering has completed one of the final Safety Elements to McCormick Park - the Pedestrian Flashers!

This has been an excellent collaboration between CBS, CPTED, Tacoma Ave Coalition, Harborview Manor Residents, Traffic Engineering/Streets and Grounds and the Washington Insurance Council. Not to mention all of the day to day citizens and employees not necessarily aligned with any community group or agency that just wanted a nice park that was easy to access and not overrun with intimidating urban street activity.

So, enjoy a small success for today and know you all played a part in making your corner of the world a little nicer and a little safer!
